Amy Martin

Marketing has developed with fascination into a passion that has become a significant part of my life over recent years. I am captivated with expanding my knowledge and understanding into how much actually goes into the concept of marketing and advertising, how complex the process can be in view of the successful creation and development of promotional media, influencing all aspects of consumers’ lives. I am intrigued to discover how advertising and marketing media is changing with regards to constant changing technology, new demands from clients to attract specific target audiences and also with relevance to the current economic climate. I am fascinated in the complexity of understanding the customer and focusing on the end product, how adverts are developed and created in view of prospective target audiences aiming to bring back the highest possible return in profit.
I have created a blog, Understanding the Customer, and i have found that is a great resource to express my personal opinions and understanding of marketing and advertising giving a view of my personal experiences and knowledge from university lectures. I strive to build on my increasing knowledge in order to make a difference in any opportunities that may arise relishing the idea of learning new skills and seeking out new challenges, giving me the greatest buzz when working to deadlines. I endeavour to be recognised for any tasks that I accomplish, making pride and dedication paramount in creating a successful piece of work or building on a first-class reputation. I thrive on my enthusiasm and passion which continually allows me and encourages me to perform to my very best ability, no matter what the situation. I take pleasure in volunteering for events of any type and grab any opportunity however large or small while i can. To further this experience, I volunteered to join the team that ran Monday's events during Enterprise Week, assisting in meeting and greeting the invited members of the panel.

My experience in working for The Validium Group, a company that offers a support service to business employees, where I was employed as a project administrator, gave me a valuable insight into business and marketing. My main role was involved with assisting in the testing and development of new computer software relating specifically to the company in order to promote efficiency in the working of the business. Due to the nature of the business, I have experience in working under the Data Protection Act and client confidentiality agreements when typing up psychological reports, handling confidential affiliate details when updating and creating new records and developing an effective system to archive classified affiliate application forms. I have extensive experience in the use of Excel and creating and developing databases for all uses.

My main interest and lifelong passion is in the equestrian sport of Eventing, which became stronger after being employed full time for over 2 years by a professional event rider. As a team we were involved heavily within the successful British Eventing Team, and I was also given the fantastic opportunity of competing Eventing myself. Through my time at this yard, I learnt valuable life-building skills involving the importance of 110% commitment and dedication when at home or at a competition in the UK or abroad. The constant responsibility of taking sole care of the top quality horses encouraged the constant desire for perfection in the immaculate turn-out of the horses down to the tiniest detail, very often working to my best ability in increasingly high pressure situations. Competing in Eventing requires a huge amount of skill and dedication to be able to remain calm under pressure and still compete to the highest standard, feeding on my highly competitive streak and spirit to succeed.

I have a keen interest in travelling, discovering new cultures and ways of life that are so different from our own. I am enthralled at the chance to discover how advertising and marketing are used within other cultures, what types of media are most attractive to consumers and how much of this influences their decisions to purchase a particular product or brand. I had the fantastic opportunity this summer of working in a very popular hotel, bar and restaurant for three and a half months on the Greek Island of Kefalonia. This experience allowed me to experience delivering customer service to the highest of standards, teaching me the huge difference in culture and way of life between Great Britain and Greece, bringing home with me only fantastic experiences and life-building skills. Working for long hours each day for seven days a week reinforced the image of dedication and commitment and the importance of working within a strong team, building effective relationships with customers and staff to create an efficient working environment under exceptionally high pressure. I am a good communicator and an effective listener, taking the opportunity while in Greece to learn the language and encourage myself to communicate well with the local community. I take immense pleasure in interacting with others, making me very approachable which in turn allows me to be able to offer the highest standard in customer service.
